USA, New York - Tejinder Pal Singh (Bindra) has been appointed
a member of the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council of the Nassau
County Legislature.
The appointment comes close on the heels of Tejinder Pal Singh
being the first person of Indian origin to be honoured by The North
Merrick Republican Club for meritorious services as a successful
entrepreneur and as a community leader. The award was presented
by the State of New York's Nassau County Executive, Thomas S. Gullota,
at a glittering ceremony attended by over 200 community leaders
and delegates of the Republican Party at the Swan Club, Long Island,
New York.
S. Ishar Singh, Tejinder Pal Singh's father, has funded the recently
instituted Sardarni Kuljit Kaur Chair in Sikh Studies at Hofstra
University.
Originally from West Punjab, the family immigrated to the USA in
1979 and successfully diversified from trading in garments to commodities,
real estate and hotels.
One of the founders in 1987 of the Sikh Gurudwara in Long Island,
Tejinder Pal Singh has served as its General Secretary, as President
and is now a trustee. He is also President of the Sikh Organization
of New York, was Convener of the International Punjabi Society's
Convention held in New York in July 2000 and serves on the Board
of United Way.
Tejinder Pal Singh and his wife Harinder Kaur have two children.
