I have been reading the continuing
string of responses on the article "Sharing
Khalsa Vows" (Love&Light, Jan. 21).
An interesting line of thinking which can be seen in the articles
is everyone trying to define, as best as possible, what the responsibility
of a Sikh is. Some say that the inward purity should be held in
the highest regard, while others say that the physical form is to
be held just as high.
I have a proposition. Why doesn't everyone try following the Guru's
word as much as he/she possibly can? If someone feels that they
can do nothing more than service of the community, then do that.
If a person can read Gurbani prescribed by the Reht Maryada,
then do that. If a person can study Sikh history and get something
from it, then do that.
Don't worry about your fellow person, worry about yourselves. You
could try to change the world, and fail. Or you could try to change
yourself and make the world a better place.
