The Kamalla Rose Kaur Column
Contemplation On Infinity
Kamalla Rose Kaur Mon Jul 02

I saw a cartoon, O my Guru, my friend,
where two astronomers
were shown using a huge telescope
to contemplate the infinite heavens.
The caption read:
"No Jones, it doesn't make ME feel small and insignificant in the least!"

How absurd we vain humans are.
Not only are we tiny in the vast scope of ALL THAT IS,
but even this whole planet is nothing,
compared to the galaxy.
And this galaxy,
the whole Milky Way,
is just another little speck of light,
in a universe that has galaxies thick as stars.

Hundreds of years ago, my Guru,
you wrote about this same infinity
that I contemplate,
with a clear and advanced scientific perception
that seems so current and modern.

You said:

"There are infinite species, and infinite continents,
infinite skies, and infinite constellations,
infinite incarnations of deities who appear.
In infinite ways the universe expands,
at countless times, the universe unfolds,
the ONE exists forever -
that single ONE transcendent BEING.

Infinite creatures issue in infinite forms,
From the ONE they emerge,
into the ONE they converge.
No one knows Your vastness,
says Nanak, only You,
the Absolute Reality,
can know Yourself."

Sukhmani Section 10, Verse 7
