The article
by Jasbir Singh (Homosexuality
and Sikhism, July 23) was more like a personal statement. We
as Sikhs have to remember that Guru Nanak was against
deviant behavior like "Vam Panthi" who drank, used narcotics
and believed in satisfying all the urges.
I don't have the exact reference with me, but it
is quite commonly known that when Guru Arjan was collecting the
poetries of the Muslim Sufi Saints for Guru Granth Sahib, then one
famous Sufi Shah Hussain's (who was gay) collection was rejected
because Guru didn't want to condone his behavior, which hey
professed in his writing.
I think Jasbir Singh has a personal issue and he has to find a
solution through his own efforts. His attempt to exaggerate his
personal likes and to categorize the community into sections that
he believes in is blatantly wrong.
