T. Sher Singh's letter ('Tirade
Against 3HO Unwarranted', Feb.20) bases his deprecation of Kamalla
Rose Kaur's article ('Lapis,
Carnelian and Jade', Feb.18) on the premise that she is a journalist,
that the article written by her is a piece of journalism, and therefore,
it should not have carried any of her own perceptions, opinions
or experiences.
I am curious to know if I am the only one who makes a distinction
between a columnist and a journalist. To me a journalist is all
what Mr. Singh mentions in his letter and a columnist is not. I
wonder how many of us read Kamalla Rose Kaur's articles, and for
that matter even T. Sher Singh's, as pieces of journalism as distinct
from a columnist writing an essay, a short story, or any other type
of writing which is not 'reporting'.
In the event that I am correct, then I think Mr. Singh's desire
to see a separate forum or a neutral ground to discuss the 3HO or
Mr. Yogi might already exist in this letter string.
