The Kamalla Rose Kaur Column
Thank You For Natural Beauty
Kamalla Rose Kaur Wed Jul 18

O Creator/Creation,
Ik Ong Kaar,
thank you for natural beauty.
Mountain altars,
little creeks through the woods,
the roaring power of high surf,
the intricate patterns at the center of dandelions and daises,
the vastexpanse of sky over the plains,
the colors of sunrise in the desert,
the eyes of newborn babies;
endless is the beauty of nature.

Yesterday I saw a little brown bird
fly to the tiptop of a very very tall evergreen tree.
She faced the setting Sun and the marvelous view,
and she sang and she sang.
That bird was inches long,
and weighed nothing to speak of,
and she filled the whole World with her joyous praise.

What must that feel like,
to have so much sound
vibrating through such a little form?
I envied that bird;
wished I could be a bird
and sing Your praise like that.

The sound of "Vaheguru, Vaheguru"
in each drop of roaring rapids,
the way the light
looks on a foggy wet morning at sea.
The flight of an eagle
should you ever be blessed to see it,
the stars on a clear night,
the veins in a leaf;
thank you Creator/Creation
forever and non-stop
for natural beauty.

Guru Nanak experienced each lovely thing
in this World
as singing praise to You, O GOD.
I want that too.
Please grant me the gift of the Name.
