I Wonder What That Sunrise Was Like?
Kamalla Rose Kaur Sun Jul 22

Sitting still,
on my back porch,
slightly chilled,
watching the sunrise,
repeating the Naam.
The colors were so subtle,
so gentle and muted today.
Yesterday, magenta clouds polka-dotted
the orange and yellow striped sky,
as flamboyant as can be.
But this morning all was soft
and the light seemed pure lemon meringue.
It is a privilege to stand witness
to the message of each dawn.

One dawn Guru Nanak
got caught up in a morning poem
that, seemingly, took him 3 days to write.
Or maybe he didn't know what he was going to say
until he faced the anxious and amazed crowd,
who were experiencing a miracle,
with Guru Nanak in the middle of it.

He sang:

"With knowledge as the banquet, and compassion as the hostess,
let the sacred music resound in every heart.
The ONE is supreme, the whole cosmos under Its sway,
why revere feats and miracles that lead you astray?
Meeting and parting are the rhythm of the universe,
to all is given what is written.
Salutations!
Salutations to That ONE Who is primal, immaculate,
immortal, immutable, constant throughout the ages!"

- Japji Sahib, pauri 29

I wonder what the sunrise looked like that morning?
