Please remember that we have
a Western audience reading, interested in Sikh
reactions to the "gay issue" and that discussions about
homosexuality is
something that all religions everywhere are presently engaged with.
Thus it is a bit alarming to me, that as educated as Sikhs traditionally
are,
that we resist bringing science into our discussion of homosexuality.
Are 10%
of humans, in every age, homosexual? If so we want to know that
because it
makes a difference. So show me the science, on both sides, and let
us decide
when we know more.
Meanwhile, please my Sikh Sisters and Bros, stay clear. Whether
you approve
of homosexuals, or would want to be one, is VERY distinct from whether
you
believe that the Christians of the Inquisition or the Nazis were
right to
hunt and exterminate them. Whether you like homosexuals or not is
WAY
DIFFERENT from whether you think it is right for gays to be targeted
and beat
up.
Big question SIKHS! Will you walk by if you see a gay man being
attacked?
Don't pretend that gays are not being picked on as societal scapegoats
- they
are. Whose side are you on when the bullies go after the gays? THAT
is the
test question, NOT whether you yourself are gay or accept that anyone
else
might be honestly gay.
My suggestion, as a Sikh PR person, as well as simply a Sikh, is
to leave the
judging of souls up to the Creator. There are countless really violent
crooks
in this world, thugs and bullies. Why persecute and attack people
who are not
harming each other or anybody else?
And please, Sikh siblings, be sensitive to political and social
issues, the ones that have a big worldwide audience draw, and get
educated before you decide to speak on our Guru's behalf. Even if
you HATE homosexuals, do you wish to sound like Extremist Christians
and Muslims right now? Does that help Sikhi?
