My Summer Break
Gurmansa Kaur Wed Aug 01

I attended the summer Sikh youth camp in Los Angeles, California, June 14 -18, 2001, organised by the Sikh Youth Network.

The eighty participants, between the ages of seventeen and thirty-eight, traveled across the continent to enrich the spirit and soul while being a part of the Sadh-Sangat and to learn from each other.

Keeping in mind the basic Sikh principle of overall development and growth of an individual our activities included doing Nitnem, Naam Japna, Prakash-di-seva, Sukhasan-di-seva, Gurbani Kirtan, Gurmat Studies, Group Discussions, Langar (preparation and cleaning up too!) and preparation of Karah Parshad.

Some of the optional activities that I participated in were Asa-Di-Vaar, Gatka Lessons, Volleyball, Hiking and Fishing. I also learnt how to spell my name in Punjabi!

While relaxing, exchanging ideas, joking, making new friends and sharing secrets were all part of the Sangat.

Thanks to the Sevadaars who lost sleep to ensure everything ran smoothly.
